The open house session introduces the air cadet program and 918 Griffon Squadron to prospective cadets and their parents, as well as having an open Q&A to help address questions or concerns. This allows prospective cadets and their parents to confirm their interest in the program before handing in completed enrolment forms.
918 RCACS New Recruit Open House – January 23 from 1900-2100 hrs at 6311 Norfolk Drive – Good Shepherd Church
Accept applications for this group of new recruits from the open house on Jan 23 until Jan 30 or until all the spots are taken. Please note that we do not complete the registration until the following steps are completed:
- Meet the minimum membership requirements (listed below)
- The cadet must be at least 12 by Feb 1 in order to register for this intake
- Submit the enrollment form from the Cadets.ca webpage: https://registration.cadets.gc.ca/get-started.html – for the Unit name put in 918 GRIFFON ROYAL CANADIAN AIR CADETS SQUADRON
- Bring into the office starting on Jan 23 (we must see the actual document and take a photocopy of it for our records)
- Government Issued Identification card for the cadet (licence, student visa, permanent resident card, birth certificate, etc)
- Proof of legal residency if not covered by the ID listed in a
- Copy of the cadet’s Alberta Health Care Card (or a different province health card if you have recently moved)
Once those steps are completed we can then add your cadet to our squadron
Timelines:
Jan 23 – Open House open for cadets and parents to attend
Jan 23 – 30 – submit documentation – first come first served
Feb 1 – Confirmation of cadets added to the squadron
Feb 4 – New Recruit Day for all new cadets 0900-1500 (To be confirmed)
Feb 8 – First Wednesday night for new recruits
Minimum Membership Requirements
- Be a legal resident of Canada (i.e. Canadian citizen, permanent resident, student visa, refugee status)
- Provide proof of provincial health insurance (Alberta Health Care Card Preferred) or equivalent
- Be at least 12 years of age
- not have attained 19 years of age
- not belong to another corps or squadron
- be acceptable to the Commanding Officer of the squadron
