Hi Parents,
Welcome parents to 918 Griffon Air Cadets 2022-23 year.
We are the Executive committee of the 918 Griffon Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC), a non-profit/charity organization. We have a full house of cadets and hope to make it a wonderful return to in-person events post-pandemic. We had opportunity to meet some of you during September’s returning cadet night or at the open house presentation. But with approximately 200 cadets in our squadron, we missed seeing many parents so we hope this e-mail provides insight to our return of in-person 918 cadet training.
Our amazing team led by Commanding Officer Major Erica Angel has planned many in-person events that we approved in the budget. We hope we can carry through with the events as she planned, but it all depends on how well the parents support their cadets. Please see the attached breakdown of 918 Griffon Expenses to get an idea of the activities your cadet can look forward to.
At this time, the squadron has completed their registration and now we will be able to contact you parents about specific ways we can achieve our funding goal. The Canadian Department of National Defense does cover costs of staff and training, provide uniforms and some event and administrative costs. However, much of the activity expenses are covered by the 918 Griffon. As you know, the pandemic stalled many cadet activities, and there were only 3 executive members last year with minimal fundraising manpower. We appreciate that many parents are incredibly busy (including the SSC executive who also juggle full time jobs or manage their own business) but we ask that all commit to contribute either volunteer time or donations to avoid trimming down squadron events due to insufficient funds. We will try to send at least monthly updates so you are kept informed of what our squadron is attempting to accomplish.
