918 Squadron runs an annual ground school program from approximately September – December. This academic course is designed to help prepare cadets who are eligible and applying for their glider or power pilot scholarship course. These candidates must go through a competitive merit review process to earn their pilot’s licenses, often beginning with the flying scholarship exam.

Glider Pilot Scholarship – Minimum Requirements
- 16 years of age on 1 Sep, the year the course is taken
- Proficiency Level 3 Qualified (by end of training year)
- 50% or higher on qualifying exam
- Grade 9 completed by nomination deadline
- Hold a category 3 medical certificate from Transport Canada. Submitted to RCA Ops O NLT 1 Jun the year of the course.
- Minimum Height: 152.4cm
- Minimum Weight: 40.82kg
- Maximum Height: 190.5cm
- Maximum Weight: 90.72kg
- Hold no Transport Canada pilot license or permit (including student pilot permit)

Power Pilot Scholarship – Minimum Requirements
- 17 years of age on 1 Sep, the year the course is taken
- Proficiency Level 4 Qualified (by end of training year)
- 50% or higher on qualifying exam
- Grade 10 completed by nomination deadline
- Hold a category 3 medical certificate from Transport Canada. Submitted to RCA Ops O NLT 1 Jun the year of the course.
- Maximum Weight: 111.13kg
- Hold no Transport Canada pilot license or permit, other than a glider pilot license
