An exciting and rare opportunity has become available!
The current operational tempo of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces in Canada is high and with the start of a new training cycle in Suffield, AB, an opportunity has been made available for Canadian Cadets in the Calgary area to observe the role of the Royal Air Force in support operations to BATUS (British Army Training Unit – Suffield).
Support trades will be showcased as a viable air force career choice. Cadets will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the C-17 Globemaster, gain familiarity with some air force trades and equipment (RAF & RCAF), and gain familiarity with the support trades required to launch and support operational forces.
Each cadet corps and squadron local to Calgary may nominate one cadet for selection to attend each of the 6 possible famil tours (dates and times listed on 918 Sqn calendar, on sign up form, and below). 918 cadets must apply to be nominated and selected via sign up list NLT 12:00h MST on Mon 3 Jun, and meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be proficiency level one qualified or higher (late joiner accelerated cadets from the current training year may be waivered and are permitted to sign up and apply)
- be free of any limitations that would preclude participation in training away from 918 LHQ
If required, the 918 nominee for each tour shift will be selected by the 918 CO based off of:
- Availability
- Attendance (Mandatory and optional)
- Uniform marks
- Rank
- Disciplinary Notes
- Commendation / Distinction Notes
918 nominees put forward will be informed NLT Wed 5 Jun. Selections from the Calgary area cadet nominees will be made by higher headquarters, with notification of selected cadets NLT COB Fri 7 Jun.
Further details are not yet available. Due to the short timeline, please be prepared to receive instructions and details later than ideal, and information is subject to change. Transport to/from YYC (likely location) is unlikely. Meals are highly unlikely. Dress will likely be C-2 or C-2B. Questions to the 918 OPI.
