Hello cadet families. November is here! In case your cadet is tired from shoveling snow and needs energy, the Canteen is OPEN on Wednesday nights. Remember any munchies that your cadet purchases helps with fundraising for 918 squadron.
The 2023 Air Cadet calendars are being distributed to all cadets as participation in this fundraiser is expected by ALL cadet families to help support the Air Cadet League. Thank you to the parents who have already picked up their calendars. If you and your family has not picked up your calendars yet, your cadet will be taking home up to 3 calendars on November 9th. It costs $20 per calendar, so please provide payment to your cadet or you can come to the front desk on subsequent Wednesday nights with payment. You will see the calendar has a lot of opportunity to win draw prizes, so please return the calendar stubs along with payment. Thank you for telling your family/friends/colleagues to support our air cadet squadron. Remembrance Day is right around the corner, lest we forget.
For the cadets and parents who participated in the poppy drive. If you had a chance to go into the Legion at 286 Jubilee, Don the organizer gave a HEARTFELT THANKS as the legion and veterans depend greatly on the poppy drive due to government cutbacks to veterans. They were really encouraged to see our air cadets come into the legion and they welcome you to future events. Lest we forget, come out on this Friday to remember Canada’s veterans. Please contribute to the poppy drive and veteran food bank drive initiatives near you.
Remember to have your cadet sign-up for the Mandatory Remembrance Day Ceremonies, happening around the city on Friday November 11. If you have not yet signed up, here is the sign up link: https://forms.gle/pwRvuysuEN4DmQ7VA. More information about the Remembrance Day event is posted on the google calendar.
If you have any questions please contact CI Chan at: clement.chan@cadets.gc.ca
Save your bottles and milk jugs for the next Bottle drive on Wednesday November 16th. Again you can drop off your cadet and bottles at the parking lot of Good Shepherd Church.
And thanks to the parents who came out for October 26 volunteer night. There were many good ideas including corporate sponsorship, potential cadet photo shoot and yearbook. These initiatives can only happen if we have enough parent volunteers make it happen. If you are interested in helping your cadets, come out to the next parent meeting on Wednesday November 16th at 19:00 (7 pm) at Judith Umbach library (in Thornhill, Centre Street and 64th Avenue). You will see meeting minutes from October in the attachment.
RSVP to secretary@918aircadets.ca All cadet parents are welcome!
We understand that many parents are very busy and unable to come out to many events. As 918 Griffon SSC is a charitable organization, you can make a donation and obtain a tax receipt to submit to CRA. Each family is recommended to support the squadron with a minimum $200 donation, to help sustain all planned cadet events this year.
Please see attached donation form, and send an e-transfer if you cannot attend in person events. Otherwise bring a cheque to the next parent meeting, and let us know if you would like to be recognized as a supporter.
Regards,
Dianna
