A big thank you to the cadets and parent volunteers who helped us successfully complete a neighbourhood food drive for the Calgary Food Bank. 918 Squadron collected 1605 lbs of food donations, worth $4173 worth of food.
This effort was spread over two different days (canvassing and main drive). Positive feedback and comments have been passed to the officers from members of our local community. Participating cadets should be justifiably proud of their efforts in helping out fellow Calgarians and promoting a positive image of both 918 Griffon Squadron and the cadet program at large. Well done!
A few special acknowledgements are also warranted.
Firstly, to the parents of cadets who participated in either food drive day. The ending times were quite variable based on how many cadets participated and how quickly they moved to and through their map areas. Sun 10 Mar ended somewhat early. Sat 16 Mar ended very early. This was in part due to the strong efforts of the cadets involved. Nevertheless, 918 Sqn appreciates the flexibility and latitude you displayed when picking up your cadets (which were, at times, far removed from the planned and intended pick up times). We will continue to strive to improve our accuracy. In the meantime, thank you for your continued understanding.
Secondly, to CV Song, who helped recruit and organize parent volunteers to drive and shuttle the food donations from map areas to the LHQ for loading. Your assistance and occasional translations contributed greatly to success. Thank you.
Finally, this food drive took place in the middle of a busy month, and a busy couple of weekends. A number of cadets (listed below) attended all 3 cadet events over 3 consecutive weekend days. Their participation and efforts are appreciated and commendable. Thank you.
