Proficiency Level One cadets will be participating in community service for the Calgary Food Bank on Wed 16 Jan by assembling birthday kits. The Calgary Food Bank provides birthday kits for youth with birthday’s -1+3 weeks from when an emergency food hamper is distributed. They distribute an average of 234 kits each month. Level One cadets will be spending an evening assembling kits for delivery and distribution, but we need your help to stock these kits.
The greatest need is birthday kits for children 9-12 years old. Each kit is intended to provide the materials to host a small birthday party (~6-8 people) and come with one or two small gifts for the birthday child. If each cadet brings in at least one small item (as outlined below), we will have a healthy stock to assemble and deliver to the Calgary Food Bank.
- Thunderbird Flight Cadets – Party Supplies & Decorations ex: balloons, napkins, cutlery, plates, cups, bunting
- Manticore Flight Cadets – Cake & Food (ex: cake mix, icing can, candles, popcorn)
- Pegasus Flight Cadets – Cake & Food (ex: cake mix, icing can, candles, popcorn)
- Valkyrie Flight Cadets – Age-appropriate toys, 9-12 years old (ex: Lego, toy cars, puzzles, board games, dolls, craft kits, puzzles, teddy bear/stuffy, book)
Donated items do not need to be expensive! Dollar store and WalMart items are just fine. One item per cadet is requested, but families and cadets are very welcome to bring in more. Please bring them with you to cadets on Wed 16 Jan. Your assistance and generosity in helping 918 Squadron and the Calgary Food Bank deliver happy birthday memories to children in need is sincerely appreciated!
